As we enter this new year, with so much uncertainty on the political front, I am particularly
aware
how important we really are to one another. In that spirit, here is
the video of me and Claire McFarland singing "You've Got A Friend" at
September's Scullers show.
I
am very excited that guitarist Terry Smith and I will return to L'Aroma
Cafe in West Newton for a Jazz Brunch on Saturday, January 7 from 11:30
am - 1 pm with Claire McFarland joining us on vocals. Afkham Salie
creates a warm, welcoming venue for all, with hot beverages and yummy
food. I hope you can join us!
And
I am excited that Terry and I will also be playing a Jazz Cafe at First
Event in Marlboro, MA on Saturday 1/29 beginning at 10 pm.
| Valerie Thompson At DreamWorld Productions |
I am very excited about my new album in the making "Say Yes To Love!"
I love arranging and orchestrating both my newest originals and other
songs I absolutely love! And the latest musician on our team is cellist
Valerie Thompson! Working with Doug Hammer, my co-producer and sound
engineer, is a dream! I can't wait to share it with you in 2017!
You can get a copy of my Coming Full Circle and Heart to Heart albums through CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon. I have copies too! And you can listen on Spotify!
My article this month is: From Information Scarcity to Information Overload, inspired by a thoughtful piece by Marriah Raphael Starr.
Some exciting performances coming up in 2017 include:
A return to L'Aroma Cafe in West Newton for a Jazz Brunch with Terry "Doc" Smith on
Saturday, January 7
A Jazz Cafe performance at First Event in Marlboro with Terry "Doc" Smith on Saturday, January 29.
A set in the BACA Performance Showcase on Sunday, February 26 at Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham.
First Monday at Club Cafe
in Boston with Kaoruko Pilkington and Tom LaMark on Monday, April 3
The 3rd Annual Cabaret Evening Fundraiser for the Newton Festival of the Arts on
Friday, April 28.
An exciting special concert at Eastover Conference Center in Lenox, MA on Saturday, July 29, where I will also be leading a weekend workshop.
If you would like to
experience the heart-centered body psychotherapy work I do, and be part
of a community of literal "helping hands," you can attend the monthly Community As Healer Group in Newton on Sunday, January 15 from 1-4 pm and February 12 from 1-4 pm.
Your comments and feedback are always welcome!
Heartfully Linda
"Courage doesn't always roar.
Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
I will try again tomorrow."
"A loving relationship is one in which the loved one is free to be himself--to laugh with me, but never at me;
to cry with me, but never because of me; to love life, to love himself,
to love being loved. Such a relationship is based upon freedom
and can never grow in a jealous heart."

Waves, Anchors and Islands: What Is Your Relationship Attachment Style? |
"Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person
is essential to your own."
--Robert Heinlein
In his book, Wired For Love,
Stan Tatkin suggests that people have one of three primary styles for
attachment, which he calls waves, anchors and islands. To be able to
better both your own attachment style and needs and the style and needs
of your partner, it is worth understanding the characteristics and
differences between them.
Tatkin lists strengths of people who relate in each style:
"Anchors
are secure as individuals, willing to commit and fully share with
another, generally happy people and adapt easily to the needs of the
moment." This style reflects a person who is secure in themselves and
therefore secure in attachment.
"Waves
are generous and giving, focused on care of others, happiest when
around other people and able to see both sides of an issue."
"Islands
are independent and self-reliant, take good care of themselves,
productive and creative, especially when given space and low
maintenance."

Music Notes

| Singing with Joe Reid, Dan Fox and Miki Matsuki at Ryles Jazz Club |
Music is such a
source of great joy, and is a universal language to connect people
heart-to-heart. In addition to my own musical gigs, I also participate in many of the wonderful open mics and other musical events available to local singers:
Amazing Things Arts Center organized by Leslie Holmes
Many
BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) singers perform in a
monthly open mic. This month, it is January 11 at 7 pm.
BACA
(Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) Open Mics in Watertown (next
one is Wednesday, January 25 at 7 pm at UU Church in Watertown)
Club Café in Boston has many open mics hosted by a wonderful variety of singers and pianists in its Napoleon Room.
The Winiker Band brings
their unique joyous musical flavor to Brothers Restaurant in Brookline,
MA on Saturday and Sunday nights. Singers are welcome.
And here in Waltham at my home, I host special house concerts through the Music Salon. Fabulous singer-songwriter Dean Stevens will join us on March 18, and jazz duo Savoir Faire will join us on April 8.

What is EKP?
| EKP
is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered
psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced
for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission,
the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP
creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms
most all who participate.
Participants can be "client," witness
or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper
heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since
the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our
bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.
EKP
helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our
largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and
expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond
defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and
expression.
Emotional
safety is the foundation of EKP. When we are emotionally safe, we are
more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and
hearts. You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as
you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart.
Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."
