I was very proud to be part of the
20th
Anniversay Celebration for the Boston Association of Cabaret Artists.
BACA is a fabulous community of singers and musicians. What a gift to
have this community in the Boston area!
Saturday, November 14, I offered a workshop on the Power of Voice at the Natural Living Expo in Marlboro, MA.
The workshop integrates body psychotherapy and music, since "voice" is
a journey of finding and expressing who we really are from the soul
level up.
I am back in the studio working with Doug Hammer on another CD, Coming Full Circle.
On Saturday, December 5, Geoff Wadsworth and Dave Birkin join me in
the studio as we add horn and flute to some of our tracks!
You can order a copy of Heart to Heart
Sunday, December 13, the Community As Healer group meets from 1 pm - 4 pm in Newton. The group meets monthly. New members are welcome.
If you would like to
experience the heart-centered body psychotherapy work I do, and be part
of a community of literal "helping hands," Saturday, January 30 will be a special Community As Healer Workshop in Newton.
My article this month, "Living While A Friend Is Consciously Dying"
is a tribute to my very special friend, Arturo, who I had the privilege
of visiting in Albuquerque the week before Thanksgiving.
Your comments and feedback are always welcome!
Heartfully Linda
"This being human is a guest house.
Every morning is a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has
been sent
as a guide from beyond.
--Rumi
"Giving brings happiness at every stage of its expression.
We experience joy in forming the intention
to be generous.
We experience joy in the actual act of giving something;
and we experience joy in remembering the fact
that we have given."

Living As A Friend Is Consciously Dying |
"Why oh lord do we feel abandoned when we are in pain?
Are you not present in the form of our family and friends who tend to us and
offer us comfort? Is their love not enough? What more do we desire, need?
We desire an end to our suffering and yet it persists and even the most tender care
can not take away the presence of profound pain in our minds and bodies.
Modern medicine can help but it too begins to fail. What then do we do?
Is it at this point of failure that our true mettle is challenged, revealed?
And what if we are found wanting, weak, even when we have been encouraged
to "be strong"? What is this suffering , then? A Greek race of endurance?
The strong win the race and demonstrate a superior character than those of us
who
stumble, fall, and cry and no longer desire to stand and run
again....Or is there compassion for those who can not be strong, for
those who do not "suffer" well or virtuously. Is God present even to
those of us who can no longer bear it anymore,
or at least think we can't."
--Arturo Olivas
I
have a very special friend from college who I fondly knew as Art. He
bravely faced some challenges in college, and I was peripherally aware
of them. He went on to become an extraordinary educator, a talented
artist--a santero, a painter of santos, religious images in a
Southwestern Spanish tradition, and at age 50, a secular Franciscan
brother.
Art, who I now know as Arturo, was always thoughtful and sensitive. Just over four
years
ago, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, and a profound
journey began for Arturo and his partner of 30 years, Chris. Arturo,
like too many people who get lung cancer, was not a smoker. So, his
diagnosis came as a total surprise, when he went to urgent care for
chronic bronchitis. He was given 6 months to live.

Music Notes
|
Music is such a
source of great joy, and is a universal language to connect people
heart-to-heart. In addition to my own musical gigs, I also participate in many of the wonderful open mics and other musical events available to local singers:
Amazing Things Arts Center organized by Leslie Holmes
Many
BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) singers perform in a
monthly open mic. This month, it is December 9 at 7 pm.
BACA
(Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) Open Mics in Watertown (next
one is Wednesday, December 16 at 7 pm at UU Church in Watertown)
Club Café in Boston has many open mics hosted by a wonderful variety of singers and pianists in its Napoleon Room.
The Winiker Band brings their unique joyous musical flavor to Brothers Restaurant in Brookline, MA on Saturday nights. Singers are welcome.

What is EKP?
| EKP
is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered
psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced
for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission,
the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP
creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms
most all who participate.
Participants can be "client," witness
or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper
heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since
the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our
bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.
EKP
helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our
largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and
expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond
defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and
expression.
Emotional
safety is the foundation of EKP. When we are emotionally safe, we are
more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and
hearts. You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as
you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart.
Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."
